Between Vineyards and the Neckar

Highlight • Cycleway

Driving along these vineyards is a dream. The Neckar was full and the headwind was so strong that the waves on the Neckar had foam crests. A vineyard was full of red poppies. Highly Recommended!

Neckarschleife Mundelsheim

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Mundelsheim Neckarschleife is one of the most impressive existing Neckarschleifen (once, many thousands of years ago, the Neckar made further loops and washed out further winding slopes, as near Gundelsheim or even further down near the Minneburg). The vineyard slopes stack up to an impressive wall and orient themselves like a parabolic mirror towards the sun.

In summer, on hot days, it becomes almost unbearably hot in the vineyards. Those who have time and leisure drive up the Trollinger Straße along the panoramic path halfway up to the Königshäusle, the impressive and widely visible stately Wängertshäusle of the Herzog von Württemberg winery, built by the former King of Württemberg. From here you have a magnificent view over the Neckar valley and the Neckarschleife and get a feel for the steep vineyard slopes and the effort involved in their cultivation.

Those who plan well take a bottle from the VDP winery at the foot of the mountain, at the last farmhouse in the village before entering the vineyards, and enjoy the magnificent view and location up here. Unfortunately, it is a dead end and you have to roll back down, but the Käsberg is worth all the effort.
