A straightforward opening stage, following the temporary diverted route at St Bees due to cliff path erosion - shortening the original route by roughly 5km.
The first 10km are easy-going, with a mixture of grassy farmland paths and a paved section along the old railway line: a gentle warm-up before the route begins to feel more distinctly Lakeland.
Despite its modest height, the views from Dent are the highlight of the day: back towards the coast on one side and the first real glimpse into the Lake District fells on the other. The descent is steep in places before joining a gravel track towards Cold Fell Road and Ennerdale Bridge.
📍Start: St Bees (Seacote Hotel)
📍End: Ennerdale Bridge (Bank House Farm)
