My first ultra hike in the Eifel region in Germany. While I loved the trails and scenery, enjoyed the time outside, the random conversations with fellow hikers, i was not too impressed with the organization. I dont want to complain too much but something felt off, and it was not only because one participant was turning blue because of hypothermia at one checkpoint and I was the only one who cared and called an ambulance. Also, if you charge almost 100 EUR for such an event, at least provide the basics. And thats an ambulance at every chackpoint as well as an opportunity for participants to warm up when the weather turns bad. Not for myself, I manage, but literally anyone can sign up to these events and people just dont know how fast things can turn sour under extreme conditions. As an organizer, you have a certain responsibility. No matter whether you let participants sign long disclaimers :)
Anyway, I met great people, I felt great on the trails and just enjoyed the hike. I felt it paying off big-time that I carried my 1 1/2yrs old daughter so many times in the hiking backpack the past year. As well as the rucking sessions. Almost always carrying a small steel plate in my backpack in daily life. Makes all the difference.
Don't forget to stay awesome and happy adventuring!
