Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein etwas durch Saarlouis gebummelt und die alten Festungsanlagen mit der Vauban-Insel besichtigt. Angelegt wurde die Festung Saarlouis im später 17. Jahrhundert von dem genialen Festungsbaumeisters König Ludwig XIV, Sebastien Vauban. Sie sollten die durch Frankreich besetzten lothringischen Gebiete sichern. Weite Teile der ehemaligen Kasematten (Gewölbe innerhalb der Festungsanlagen) sind noch gut erhalten und werden heute wegen der optimalen Lage in der City von der Gastronomie genutzt.
