Sublime views over Loch Lomond
A quick bonus hike before the journey home! Legs were feeling weary after the previous two days on the Munros, but this was a nice easy-going route with beautiful views to finish the weekend.
I started from the memorial hall in the quiet village of Milton of Buchanan. This tactic avoided the very busy main car park down the road at Balmaha. In fact, I managed to avoid the crowds for the majority of the route!
It starts off on a track through a farm and across several fields before heading up the quiet side of the hill (maybe part of the West Highland Way?) The views of Loch Lomond soon appeared and were superb!
I cut uphill onto the ridge and to the summit, which was full of tourists. The summit unfortunately doesn't have an obvious summit marker, but this didn't really take away from the walk.
The ridge is undulating and some of the lower tops have even better views of the islands in the loch. The way down towards the the main car park was busy but on a well-made path. This was also scenic, going through pleasant woodland.
I turned off before reaching the car park. Back down at the road, it was a longish but straightforward section on a footpath back to Milton. Overall this is a lovely walk, which, on a clear day, offers plenty of bang for buck. Also a suitable short route that can be fitted in before travelling home after a visit to the Trossachs. 🏞️
