The Via Ferrata Fuente Vieja de Moclín is a relatively short and accessible via ferrata, making it well suited for beginners and families. However, it also includes a surprisingly technical training section near the base, with physically demanding moves that can challenge even experienced climbers. While the main route may feel easy for advanced ferratistas, the combination of scenic setting and the optional practice wall makes it enjoyable and worthwhile for adults as well, especially as a relaxed outing or skills session.
Despite its modest height, this section is surprisingly challenging. It features powerful, gymnastic moves, often on slightly overhanging rock, with widely spaced iron rungs that require good upper body strength and precise footwork. The proximity to the ground can be deceptive: while the exposure is limited, the technical difficulty is significantly higher than what many climbers might expect from a via ferrata. It feels almost like a hybrid between a sport climbing problem and a ferrata, making it ideal for experienced climbers who want to practice dynamic movement, body tension, and efficient clipping techniques.
Because of its design, the training wall serves as an excellent warm-up or skills assessment. Less experienced climbers may find it a tough introduction, while more advanced ferratistas can use it to push their limits in a relatively controlled environment.
On this occasion we only did the training section, after having completed the Vía Ferrata de Moclin before.
