One of the most picturesque cycling routes in the region, this crossing from Trieste to Rijeka has everything - the effortless cycling culture of Italy where drivers give space and roads are smooth, a long and gentle climb through silent Slovenian villages and deep green forests onto the vast Karst plateau, and views that stretch all the way back to the Adriatic. The roads stay quiet, the gradient never turns cruel, and the landscape remains lush and wild the whole way up. Then the plateau tips downhill and the prize reveals the entire Kvarner coast spreading out below you, getting bigger and bluer with every kilometre. Finish in Rijeka and go straight to the sea.
