La particolarità del Maglio di Pontevico risiede nel suo essere una "macchina del tempo" perfettamente conservata. È uno dei pochi esempi di archeologia industriale dove la forza motrice del fiume Oglio viene ancora trasformata, tramite una grande ruota idraulica e un sistema di alberi a camme, nel movimento ritmico e potente del maglio per la forgiatura del ferro.
