View of Troutbeck Park Farm

Highlight • Settlement

In this valley, Troutbeck Park Farm is one of many "traditional farm buildings, largely dating from the late 17th and early 18th century, when the profitability of wool provided a good deal of local wealth". It was purchased by Beatrix Potter in 1924, and was built up from disrepair by her and her "very able farmer", Tom Storey. They had a herd of pure-bred Herdwick sheep, which competed in local district shows. An avid conservationist, it was always Beatrix's intention to leave it to the National Trust to help preserve traditional farming and the local landscape.

Troutbeck Tongue Summit

Highlight • Viewpoint

Troutbeck Tongue is a 1,194-foot (364 m) Wainwright fell in the Far Eastern Lake District and it will forever hold a special place in my heart as number 214 of 214 of my second Wainwright round. It's nestled in a bowl surrounded by bigger fells and the summit is a grassy knoll. Troutbeck Tongue has views to the western side of the Kentmere Horseshoe and I love the view down to Windermere and the Troutbeck valley.
