Stone Tower at Külpmann Quarry

Highlight • Monument

Until a few years ago, Ruhr sandstone was mined in the Böllberg quarry to produce floor panels or facade panels, for example. The old factory building originally belonged to the Neuwuelflingsburg colliery, which worked here until 1967. In the walls of the quarry, primeval tree trunk remains up to 2m long were occasionally recovered during mining. They are remnants of a former forest bog landscape that existed during the Upper Carboniferous (320 to 296 million years before today).

The Külpmann quarry is located on the Böllberg in Albringhausen, Wetter (Ruhr). Ruhr sandstone was mined in the quarry. The site was operated by the Külpmann family from 1932. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2012. Since 2013 there has been a sales warehouse for a natural stone dealer here. The quarry wall is a geological outcrop from the Carboniferous period that still exists today.

"Albringhausen station was a station in Albringhausen, a district of the Esborn district of Wetter (Ruhr) in the Ennepe-Ruhr district, on the Witten-Schwelm railway line. It was opened on May 15, 1934. It stood for passenger and freight traffic In the pre-war period, passenger trains stopped here twenty times a day, and express trains passed through.
Thanks to its secluded location, the Albringhausen station, which was then largely cordoned off, was also used as a quiet place to sleep for politicians and guests in stationary special government trains. Konrad Adenauer stayed here in the saloon car, as did Queen Elizabeth II of England, who traveled through Germany in a special train in May 1965.
Passenger traffic was stopped on November 30, 1979. The line was closed on January 1, 1983. There is now a restaurant in the station building..."

MINING AND RAILWAY HISTORY
A bed for the queen: The English queen stayed in Albringhausen in 1965
"Who would have thought: Albringhausen train station has already had royal visits: the isolated location of the station once offered a quiet place to sleep for politicians and guests of the special government trains that used to run, which stood overnight in the largely cordoned off station. Konrad Adenauer and other politicians dreamed in the sleeping car of a saloon train towards the next day. The most prominent guest in Albringhausen in 1965 was probably the English Queen Elisabeth, who traveled through the Federal Republic from May 20th to 28th in a special train..."

What a beautiful autumnal round, simply wonderful.
I copied this hike from someone last year.
Starting in Hiddinghausen, the path took me along narrow paths through the forest. And it continued like that for almost the entire route. Approximately 85% lead along narrow trails through the forest or along fields. I'm …

It was a super nice hike with incredibly beautiful sections. In addition, the best hiking weather, an unexpected nice refreshment at the right time at the Untere Rattelbecke and the timing was perfect.
😄
Now I'm happy and content.

I've already raved about it in detail in the picture descriptions. Here is just an absolute recommendation. This hike has almost …

Still needs to be reworked. Fantastically beautiful sections, great 🙂

Finally the time had come. My first solo hike this year.

I was drawn to my beloved upper Elbschetal between Gevelsberg, Wetter (Ruhr) and Sprockhövel.
I have already hiked a few tours here and I have also done these in a very similar way.

Getting there: Large parking lot near the A43 near Hiddinghausen (just 23 minutes drive)
Or the Kaninchenweg stop, including the SB 37, which goes via Hattingen to Bochum Central Station.

I did another tour on Thorben's list, which I'd like to do this year.

In the end, I covered 22 km. …

What an adventure tour! Field and meadow paths alternate with paths through shady deciduous forests. Currently not recommended for people with allergies to grasses, these were numerous and up to 1.50 m high 😁 Some paths were therefore difficult to find due to the high vegetation. In the last third I went astray through a deciduous forest because the path …

Shot a year-end tour with a friend in very windy weather. It went from Hiddinghausen to the Böllberg. The wind really blew in our face there 😅 and the view was fantastic. The tour took us mainly over meadows and narrow, muddy forest paths, which were occasionally peppered with fallen trees. I wish you all a happy new year

A nice round based on an idea from @Sibylle . After rain it can be a bit slippery, but the lap has very little asphalt. 👍
