Since there was always flooding, a canal was built that leads the rest of the water. It is crossed on a ford that is under water for about sixty days a year. Then access is regulated by barriers.

Highlight • Monument

In front of the town hall, the fountain monument, created by the Italian sculptor Giacomo Manzù (1908-1991) and inaugurated in 1977, commemorates the episode from Grimmelshausen's main work "The Adventurous Simplicissimus". The fountain was donated by Sentor Dr. Franz Burda, honorary citizen of Renchen.

Tasty beer, matching dishes and a great atmosphere. Especially in summer, the beer garden is highly recommended to end the bike ride or to interrupt. For a long time already no insider tip.

March 3, 2024,Sagen und Mythen Nr 7 Grimmelshausen-Tour
The tour takes us in the footsteps of Grimmelshausen and through the varied landscape of Ortenau. I started at the swimming pool in Oberkirch. Along the Rench to Müllen. We went via Zusenhofen to Nußbach. Continue to Nesselried and Ebersweier through hilly landscape. You slowly notice that spring is approaching. From Ebersweier it goes to Appenweier, Renchen, Ulm, Haslach, Tiergarten …

Since a thunderstorm was forecast, we shortened the original tour and took advantage of the sunny afternoon. It's always a beautiful tour that you can customize if you prefer a slightly hilly route.
