Brekkefossen

Highlight • Waterfall

Hike for about 30 minutes over hill and dale (via a path marked with the red letter "T") to the waterfall. Even more amazing after the strenuous climb is the view over Flåm, the mountains and the fjord - beautiful. Everything is free. The path is signposted from the road.

Brekkefossen Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

In addition to the beautiful view of the beautiful Brekkevossen waterfall, you also have a beautiful view of the fjords (it is a tough climb but definitely worth it).
If you have arrived in Flåm with a cruise ship, you can see it in the distance.

Flåm Railway Station and Museum

Highlight • Monument

The railway was originally built for freight traffic starting in 1923. It was intended to transport freight from the Bergen Railway in Myrdal to Flam on the Sognefjord, which was accessible by ship year-round. The railway was completed in 1936, and freight traffic began with steam locomotives.

Passenger service began in 1941. The line was not fully electrified until 1944.

In recent times, however, the line has become increasingly important for tourist traffic. A special highlight is the gradient of 5.5 per thousand for a standard gauge line and the stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall, between two tunnels.

Bridge over the Flåm River

Highlight • Bridge

No expert on bridges, but if I am not mistaken this is a Tied Arch Bridge. Located just a short distance from the river flowing into the fjord.

Norway 🇳🇴 2025 Flåm

Flåm is a small village with 400 inhabitants, but it receives many visitors every year. We were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the small town at around 25 degrees Celsius with a stunning view.

The ascent with about 600 steps is rather strenuous for some hikers, but it is worth persevering. You could also walk the entire 14.5km to the top. The path is well marked. It takes about 2.5 hours one way.

Nice to stretch your legs after the train journey of 2 hours. The climb to the bottom of the waterfall is quite tough. There seems to be no end to the stone steps. Up there you will be treated to a beautiful view of the waterfall and the valley.

Really easy at the beginning. But climbing the long stairs to the waterfall was a nightmare . Only for good shaped people
Tough climb to view the waterfall but well worth it

There are 560 steps to the waterfall. But the view is incredible.

Showing Translation

Today we went on a hike in Flaam. A steep climb with steps to the viewpoint at the waterfall. At the end we did a bit of shopping at the harbor and as a reward we tasted good beer in a rustic brewery right on the shore. 🍻🚢😆

Showing Translation

The viewpoint is reached via a fairly steep path and many natural stone steps. The view and the sound of the water are impressively beautiful.
