Historic Lift Bridge and Water Tower, Moerbeke

The water tower next to the Moervaart was built around 1879 as part of the domain of the Lippens castle. The tower or "stroomwaterophijscher" is built in the donjon tower style with square dark red brick in horizontal bands, consoles and diamond motifs. The pumping installation that was originally part of the water tower has since disappeared.

One of the first seven Reynaert banks has been located here since 1955. The text was the same that was later used for the pew at the church of Oudenbos. The Reynaertbank was destroyed, probably in the 1980s (?), an all-terrain vehicle broke them down. The aforementioned bench was replaced by the church of Oudenbos, but in July 2009 the municipality of Lokeren also had a new bench installed on the original site of 1955. Local artist Myrianne Matthys painted the appropriate scene. The story about Reynaert's 'encounter' with the unfortunate fowls of the nunnery is continued here with the text on the bench. The place seems doomed, as Reynaert let the chicken feathers fly around here, in March 2012 (presumably) a truck flew the planks around. The driver then committed a hit-and-run. So destroyed again.
