St. Laurentius Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Laurentius Church is one of the oldest Protestant churches in the Bamberg district. The oldest part is the church tower from the 14th century. The church burned down twice and was rebuilt in 1577 and 1608. The von Crailsheim family had it redesigned. From 1701 to 1759 it received a new interior in the Baroque style and the tower a Welsche dome. Since 1806 it has been the mother church of the evangelical parishes in the area.

In the Aurach Valley between Walsdorf and Lisberg, new approaches have been taken in landscape management for several years. In 2006 a grazing project “Aurachochse” started between Walsdorf and Zettelsdorf with eight rear cattle, a back-breeding of the aurochs. In the meantime the herd has grown to an impressive number. In 2011, water buffalos and Koniks were added to the floodplain between Kolmsdorf and Feigendorf. The robust herbivores are kept outside all year round and only need to be fed in real emergencies such as long-lasting snow cover or floods. Prerequisites for year-round grazing are sufficiently large pastures, a low animal density and close interlinking between open land, bushes and groups of trees
