View of Dünsberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Dünsberg - mountain of the Celts! From here you can clearly see it in the distance.

When the days are at their shortest, between December 21st and New Year's Day, the Langensteiner Menhir, the Dünsberg near Giessen and the setting sun are roughly in line.
The Celts worship the Dünsberg as the sacred mountain of Belenus, the god of light.
The Langenstein menhir is therefore part of an old annual clock.
Apparently, the Celts were able to determine the winter solstice in this way almost four thousand years ago.

Liebestunnel Langenstein

Highlight • Trail

A short but beautiful hedge path. In summer it shines in all its glory. In the middle of the “Love Tunnel” you cross the small babbling “Netzebach”.
There is a beautiful, solitary tree in the meadow below. Fantastic.

Hof Nezza

Highlight • Historical Site

A great homestead.
The history of this farm goes back a long way and Dr. Alfred Schneider, Amöneburg, has documented them in detail. In the "Amöneburger Blätter" of 1997, Dr. Schneider that "... the present farm was already mentioned between 750 - 779 as 'Nezzaha' in the register of donations of the Fulda monastery ...".

The premium hiking trail begins either at the Protestant St. James' Church, a beautiful medieval pilgrimage church with its remarkable choir and the Long Stone, a significant menhir from the Celtic period, or at the hiking portal north of Langenstein. Unlike at the church, there are ample parking spaces at the hiking portal, even for hiking groups.

A pretty nice hike that I used as a template from Michel. Thanks for that. That was a good thing because the signage was still missing. Every now and then you could see signs that were probably from last year's inauguration. The hiking trail is officially called “Über Stock and Langenstein”
