Swan Lake near Köthen

Highlight • Lake

Swan Lake is the largest and deepest of the heath lakes at the foot of the Krausnicker Mountains south of Berlin. Very idyllic location and formed by dead ice at the end of the Vistula Ice Age.

May 18, 2022,Pichersee – Aussichtsturm Wehlaberg Runde von Köthen
Easy hike, did it from the parking lot.

The wonderful autumn weather lured us to Koethen yesterday, where my Mr. Schatz and I took a leisurely stroll around the Heideseen and climbed the Wehlaberg and its observation tower. Splendid! The lakes were all ironed smooth like silk scarves and everywhere the vainly spruced up deciduous trees were reflected in the still water, while the wind-parted heads of the …

Clear air, a light frost, and blue skies – perfect for a Sunday morning stroll.

We've often walked around the Köthen Heath lakes. They're beautiful in every season. The highlight is, of course, the Wehlaberg with its observation tower. But we skipped that today.

Fantastic circular hike from/to the village center of Köthen near Märkisch Buchholz in the Dahme Heide Seen Nature Park. Amidst pine trees, sessile oaks and beeches, a shady hiking trail along 4 of 7 lakes. The 144 m high Welaberg offers a view of the Krausnicker Mountains and the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. Great picnic spots by the water, path markings …

Very nice hike, which requires little fitness except for the steep ascent to the Wehlaberg. A lot of deciduous forest, therefore certainly especially recommended in autumn. Opportunity to stop off after the tour by car to Groß Wasserburg!

We did this tour in June. The landscape was great and our dog was just as enthusiastic, especially since he was able to go into the water again and again in the heat to cool off or to drink. The view from the tower is also beautiful. At the end we went to our starting point to the bathing area, …

Highly recommended, very little used area 😀

The weather played along today too. After a short but steep climb, the summit of the Wehlaberg, which is only 144 m high, was covered with a beautiful layer of hoarfrost after a cold night. Just in time before the sun made the sight disappear again.
The view from the Wehlabergturm is highly recommended.
