Owned by the Dutch Forestry Commission (Staatsbosbeheer), the forest is located in the Het Groene Woud National Landscape and is named after the hamlet of Vressel. It was established in the 1920s as a reclaimed forest on a three-meter-high drifting sand ridge, with primarily Scots pine as production forest.
