Selinunte Archaeological Site

Highlight • Historical Site

Selinunte, or Selinunte in French, is an ancient Greek city founded in 650-628 BC. BC Greek colonists, seeking new markets in western Sicily, founded the colony of Selinunte, which then became a prosperous city. The name comes from "Selinòn", which refers to the leaves of apio, a local wild parsley that grows in abundance on the banks and in the valley of the Modione river.
The site of the archaeological park covers more than two hundred and seventy hectares and makes Selinonte one of the largest archaeological sites in Europe. You will find many temples to visit.
The Archaeological Park of Selinunte is open every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The price of tickets is six euros.
