Chemnitz Bridge Göritzhain

There used to be an inn on this site. It was demolished. I created this video myself in 2012 and made it available to anyone interested.

Very nice cycle path along the Chemnitz and largely parallel to the Chemnitztalstraße. The asphalt is very good. I didn't find the path too narrow. I had imagined it to be worse. The Elbe cycle path in Dresden is sometimes narrower when there are more cyclists.

I only think the ascent/descent around the drawbridge is dangerous, as you can't see the very narrow 90-degree bend coming from the south and therefore have to brake hard unexpectedly. On the Chemnitztal cycle path you cover fewer meters in altitude than on the road and are spared from cars.

Auerswalde Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The Auerswalde suspension bridge was opened in autumn 2017. It connects the Chemnitztalradweg shortly after the Schusterstein tunnel with Auerswalde and the Auerswalder Mühlenkeller, which is right next to the bridge.

Schusterstein Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

The Schusterstein Tunnel was built between 1900 and 1902 during the construction of the Chemnitz Küchwald-Wechselburg railway line. It passes under part of the Schusterstein massif, which is responsible for the beautiful meander (loop) of the Chemnitz River. Today, with its bridge-tunnel-bridge combination, it is one of the most beautiful sections of the Chemnitz Valley Cycle Path following renovations from 2015 to 2016.

There is always something and so the planned hike through the Ore Mountains had to be canceled today. But in order not to leave the wonderful weather completely unused, we went for a quick lap on the iron horse. Through the Chemnitz Valley to Stein and then somehow back again, just following your nose. Shortly before the end there was …
