View of Verden and its cathedral

Highlight • Viewpoint

Verden is a tranquil town with a pretty old town and a cathedral with (only) one tower. If you drive over the Aller and the old Aller over the Weser cycle path towards Hoya, a viewpoint comes up shortly after the bridge with a wonderful view of Verden!

Weser Weir Dörverden

Highlight • Bridge

Cyclists and pedestrians can cross the weir over the Weser River between Dörverden and Hilgermissen from March 15 to October 15.

View across the weir towards the power plant

After a weir had already been built in Bremen-Hemelingen as the endpoint of the Lower Weser correction project, another weir was constructed in Dörverden between 1907 and 1914 to allow the release of Weser water for the irrigation of agricultural land between Hoya and Bremen during dry periods.[1] The first weir, a steel lattice structure, was built in 1911/1912 by the company Aug. Klönne.[2]

The Dörverden weir at Weser kilometer 308.8, along with the current weir, was built between 1931 and 1933 as the second weir on the Middle Weser River to maintain a more consistent water level and to make the waterway navigable for large ships. The weir is 104.90 m wide and consists of two 40 m wide sections; the third section is 24.90 m wide. The impoundment height is 4.60 m. In summer, the upstream water level is kept constant at 14.60 m above sea level, and in winter at 15.10 m above sea level. The weir is operated by the Waterways and Shipping Authority Verden.[3]

June 23, 2022,Weserradweg 8 von Nienburg nach Verden Teil2
... In the afternoon it got so warm that the wind only served as a warm broth and not to cool down. Nevertheless: today's stage was peppered with beautiful views of the Weser, through towns with many lovingly tended farms and a very large proportion of the Weser cycle path that was great to ride. 😀
The highlight was that …

Nice day tour with good paths, nice rest areas. Many beautiful dreamy places on the right and left of the Weser.
Verden is always worth seeing. Dom and Aller very nice and the city center invites you to take a break.
A little tip in Hoya, the cinema has a beer garden right on the Weser, very cool.

I think this is the first time in my 45 years that I ride my bike with shorts at the end of October.
Temperatures like in spring.

Showing Translation

Lots of construction, no-entry traffic, and therefore lots of detours. At least the weather cooperated today.
