Ruins of the Karsibór U-Boat Training Base

Highlight • Historical Site

A place where German history has left its mark, like in so many places in Poland.

In 1942, the German submarine base was built at the former pier of the steam ferry that ran from Kasibór to Usedom from 1881.
The submarine harbor served as a base for training and auxiliary boats.
Submarines from the 4th Stettin training fleet, armed KFK boats from the K.F.K. school flotilla and torpedo training boats (S-boats) also docked here.
In 1944, the base on the island of Karsibór was expanded to include a barracks complex for naval cadets (Schnellboot-Lehr-Division). Here, the naval cadets were trained on torpedo boats and KFK boats.
The last submarines were stationed in the submarine harbor until mid-April 1945.

Today you can admire the well-preserved jetty and the quays around the harbor. The ruins of the workshop hall and barracks can also still be seen.

Canal-Side Tree Avenue

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Well-developed path through the forest along the canal. Further back to the pier, it gets a little bumpier, but still easy to ride on a normal road bike.

Karsibór Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The original form of the church was built in the Middle Ages. It was fundamentally rebuilt in 1826 and still exists in this architectural style to the present day.
The building was designed by the great Berlin master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel, who designed a large number of well-known buildings in Pomerania. Inside there is a late Gothic altar, a baroque pulpit and the gallery with organ

Highlight • Religious Site

A very good cycle path goes over the bridge, so you can fully concentrate on the beautiful view when crossing and don't have to pay so much attention to the traffic.

Świnoujście Promenade

Highlight • Rest Area

Swinemünde has a beautiful and quite long promenade lined with many buildings in the style of seaside resort architecture. This promenade stretches (across the border) via Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf to Bansin. It is approximately 12 kilometers long.

It is also known as "the longest promenade in Europe."

Compared to Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck, Swinemünde has some unique features.

Firstly, the numerous kiosks selling food, drinks, and souvenirs are striking. Secondly, there is a small forest between the promenade and the beach. The sand that is washed away by the sea from other parts of the island is deposited in Swinemünde.

While the beach used to begin right behind the promenade, today there is sometimes a 200-meter gap between the promenade and the beach.

The sea is thus receding further and further from the Swinemünde promenade.

The southernmost tip of the lagoon that can be reached. The trip was worth it, except for the last 2km with each bike, after which it gets a bit rougher. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you. Take the yellow signposted cycle path back over dilapidated farms, fields and farm tracks to Karsibor …

Usedom's southernmost point on the Piastowski Canal. Great views of the lagoon. Continue to Karsibor (Karseburg), a historic church. And a short break.

Finally, another bike ride today. From Ahlbeck to Świnoujście, and from there by ferry to Wolin, then on toward Karsibor and the southern tip of the Kaiser Canal.
Anyone who really wants to go there will have to accept the poor road. From the tip, there's a sweeping view of the Szczecin Lagoon. 😄 🙋‍♂️
After a short loop through …

The tour is really fun, but we couldn't go to the top of the Piastowski Canal because the path at the end was impassable due to the constant rain.
