Kabacki Forest named after Stefan Starzyński – a forest park and nature reserve located in the southern part of Warsaw. It stretches for 4-5 km and 2.5-3 km wide. From the south it borders the Piaseczno and Konstancin-Jeziorna Communes, from the north with the currently greatly expanded Ursynów, and from the west with Puławska Street. The Kabacki Forest Air Crash occurred on May 9, 1987, when a passenger plane, the Il-62M "Tadeusz Kościuszko" of Polish Airlines LOT, crashed during an attempted emergency landing. The cause of the tragedy was an engine failure and a fire on board, which led to the loss of control of the plane. The crash killed 183 passengers and crew members, making it the largest in the history of Polish aviation. At the site of the tragedy in the Kabacki Forest, there is a commemorative cross, a plaque with the names of the victims, and a monument commemorating the event. The forest area that was destroyed by the falling plane was reforested after being cleaned up.
