Saints Peter and Paul Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk (Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul), the main church of Ostend, Belgium, is a Roman Catholic Neo-Gothic church. It is built on the ashes of a previous church that occupied the site. King Leopold II enthusiastically supported a plan to build a new and more magnificent church. Construction started in 1899 and was completed and consecrated by Bishop Waffelaert on August 31, 1908. Its stained glass windows were destroyed during the two World Wars and were replaced by windows by Michiel Martens. The church is 70 meters long and 30 meters wide. Its spires are 72 meters high.
The church was built in the Neo-Gothic style according to plans by architect Louis Delacenserie, who based his design on the Gothic Cologne Cathedral and the Neo-Gothic Votivkirche in Vienna.

Oostende Voor Anker

Highlight • Historical Site

During this weekend, the docks are full of maritime heritage. The quays are filled with maritime stands. Music resounds in the squares. A snack and a drink is quickly found. Every year there is a specific theme.

Beaufort ROCK STRANGERS Sculpture Park – Arne Quinze (Beaufort 2012)
Arne Quinze developed a sculpture cluster for the city of Ostend called Rock Strangers.
Strange objects that appear in locations where you would least expect them, such as the renovated Zeeheldenplein, the city's hotspot. It looks like they have washed up.
Their bright orange color contrasts sharply with their natural environment and gives them an alienating effect.
His Rock Strangers form a colorful accent in an otherwise fairly neutral, urban environment. With the immense metal installation, Quinze wants to counterbalance the increasingly strong uniformity in urban planning.
He also wants to penetrate the safe cocoon that people build around them in the city. Strange elements appear and contribute to the multi-society.
Location: Zeedijk near Zeeheldenplein, Ostend beaufortbeeldenpark.be

Ostend Ferry

Highlight (Segment) • Rest Area

Very nice ferry that takes you from the west bank to the east bank in Ostend (or the other way around). The boats bear the colorful stamp of artist Roger Raveel. The crossing is short but very enjoyable and a nice addition to your walk. You can find the timetable here: agentschapmdk.be/nl/veerdiensten/veerdienst-oostende

De Lange Nelle Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

The lighthouse of Ostend is also popularly called Lange Nelle, probably due to its height of no less than 65 meters. Unfortunately, the tower is not open to the public, but the tower is a nice sight.

September 6, 2023,🚲De Haan.. Oostende ⛱️🇧🇪🤴
Also a nice tour
There is a lot to see in Ostend. But also a lot going on 🤷‍♂️.
It would have been nicer to drive back through the interior of the country. Anyway... Now off to the sea 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️🏄‍♂️⛱️🍺🤴
