Cannery Row, Monterey

Highlight • Historical Site

Cannery Row is the coastal street and tourist district of Monterey, California. It gets its name from the many sardine factories that were built and operated here between 1895 and around 1950. The street was previously called Ocean View Avenue, but today the nickname is official. After the collapse of the sardine fishery, the street became the tourist center of Monterey.

Lone Cypress Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the roadside balustrade is actually a better angle than from the viewing platform to photograph the tree without branches from other trees spoiling the coveted 'lone' Cypress impression 😜
Update: The iconic old Cypress tree that had already been stabilized with steel ropes and anchors was badly damaged in a storm 2018 and lost its left branches.
