Saar Coal Canal at Dieding

Highlight • Cycleway

The Saar coal mine canal owes its name to its origins. It was created to transport coal from the Saarbrücken deposit. It joins the Marne-Rhine canal at Gondrexange. These two canals are now bordered by the EuroVelo 5 cycle path.

March 8, 2025,Runde von Sarralbe
first relaxing ride for 2025, starting from the car park of Sarralbe to the Etang du Welschhof, to Saareguemines, then between the Saar and the Saarkohlekanal back to Sarralbe

Very nice, leisurely bike tour from Saareguemines to Saaralbe along the Saar-Coal Canal and from Saaralbe over the Weiher cycle path (Iternaire aux lacs) via Holving, Puttelange aux lacs, Grundviller back to Saareguemines. Attention: the Pont Canal near Saaralbe is currently closed for driving over and under. We cheated our way through it😆

My favorite bike tour, wonderful lakes, Hambacher Weiher, Etang de Welschhof, Etang de Marrais, Hirbacher Weiher. Beautiful landscape to Saaralbe. Back on the Saar-Kohle Canal. The meters in altitude are not correct, the route has few inclines, approx. 200 m in height.

In weather that was "not as nice as reported", we first went from Saarreguemines-Rémelfing along the Saar-Coal Canal to Saarealbe with the obligatory stop at the "Croco". Shortly after Saarealbe we left the canal in the direction of Puttelange-aux-lacs and finally back via Hambach to Saareguemines.

Was a pleasant and beautiful round trip with the tandem. Many paved forest paths and quiet side roads. Was a new way for us to come to the Café de la Mairie.

A beautiful, highly recommended bike ride, which first led through Sarreguemines and then along the canal. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view. After Sarralbe, we left the canal and the tour took us along easy bike paths to the first lake, the Étang de Hirbach, and then on to the Étang de Welschhof. It was …

Today I'm off again with the 49-euro ticket. First very quickly with the RE to Saarbrücken and then more slowly with the tram to Saargemünd. I replanned the individual sections of the entire tour so that there is a train station at the start and finish (see Collection). First, I rolled south along the Saar in fairly hot weather. Then …
