Guipry-Messac Mill

Highlight • Restaurant

This former watermill, documented as early as 1089, was initially used as a fulling mill before being converted into a flour mill in the 19th century. Its operation ceased on December 31, 1974. Since then, the building has stood as a significant heritage landmark, marking the industrial and riverine history of the Vilaine Valley.

Boël Mill

Highlight • Monument

Le Boël is one of the emblematic sites of the Vilaine valley.

Essential place for walks or bike rides (mountain biking, road or gravel, there is something for everyone) and even kayaking or canoeing, stopover on the towpath from Rennes to Redon with its picnic tables . The heights offer a very pretty panorama, as far as Rennes in good weather.

The passage of the lock for the boats is always a spectacle for the little ones but also for the older ones.

There is also a magnificent 12th century watermill.
To have fun, you can have lunch in a very good restaurant, the Marin Boël, and recently in a creperie.

When you come from Rennes, the mill of Pont-Réan announces the bridge that you will have to cross to continue on the towpath towards the lock of Boël.

Surprising drawbridge allowing the crossing of the Cicé lock.
This allows you to reach Chavagne from the Vilaine towpath (and vice versa).
Note that this part of the Vilaine is in fact an artificial canal (which explains the straightness of this portion from Champcors).

Today small stage of flat. I walked along "La Vilaine" and following its meanders, I arrived in Rennes. It is a towpath in good condition. From there I joined my sleeping place where is also the store Vélofasto, specialist in the horizontal bike.

Showing Translation

Today, we spent almost the entire day cycling along the Vilaine River, mostly on dirt roads. In many sections, fresh gravel had been laid in response to previous flood damage, which made for a less pleasant ride.
