“Thomas Spratt and King Haigler” — Bronze by Chas Fagan. Erected 2014. (Chas Fagen also sculpted the better known Captain James Jack). King Haigler was the leader of the Catawba Indians and became friends with Thomas Spratt when settlers first came to the Mecklenburg area. Spratt assisted the tribe with leasing their land to white settlers and fought beside them against their long time enemy to the west, the Shawnee.
