In Morlaix, Notre-Dame de la Fontaine was a very popular place in the Middle Ages because of the abundant spring which quenched the thirst of pilgrims from the Tro Breiz, on the way from Saint-Pol to Tréguier.
A chapel was built there in the 15th century at the request of Duke Jean V of Brittany.
In the 17th century, the Carmel of Morlaix was built on its site and only a fragment of the primitive Gothic building has been preserved above the monumental fountain.
