"We hike in Schalkenmehren, a town with 600 souls, and circumnavigate the Schalkenmehrener Maar there. The Schalkenmehrener Maar is one of the most famous "eyes of the Eifel", the three maars around Daun. Gemündener Maar, Weinfelder Maar ( also called Totenmaar) and Schalkenmehrener Maar towards the southeast between Gemünd and Schalkenmehren.
