Flensburg Harbor Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Flensburger Hafen (Flensburg Harbour) is located at the end of the Flensburger Förde within the city of Flensburg. A distinction is made between the west side, the east side, and the tip of the harbour.

The harbour extends in the west from the tip of the harbour to the Baltic Sea resort. On the east bank, its dimensions were formerly counted up to Kielseng. Since the withdrawal of the Bundeswehr, Sonwik and the adjacent boat harbour of the Mürwik Naval School are sometimes also mentioned in this context. In addition, the buildings of the Flensburg city centre, the buildings of Jürgensby, and the Volkspark are located around the harbour, forming Flensburg's distinctive skyline. Next to the Flensburger Hafen, there is a sailing harbour at Fahrensodde on the east bank, which does not belong to the aforementioned harbour.

At the tip of the harbour, Flensburg's Mühlenstrom flows into the Förde. On Angelburger Straße, where the tip of the harbour was located in the Middle Ages before the Förde silted up, became muddy and was filled in, the Royal Water Mill stood until the beginning of the 20th century.
The current tip of the harbour is protected from surrounding traffic noise by the embankments of the harbour railway. Until the 1980s, the so-called Kanalschuppen (canal shed) stood there. Today, the tip of the harbour is undeveloped and consists of a large open space that serves as a venue for various events. In summer, when the area is unoccupied, young people often play frisbee or Viking chess there.

Somehow Komoot has broken down the tour... what a great event, what a great route

Showing Translation

Today we went to Glückburg Castle. For the way there I chose the Fördestieg, which leads along the coast. The hiking trail is very well signposted. 👍
What is particularly nice about the route is the alternating image of the harbour, forest area and beach. The Solitude beach section is really beautiful and the water is so crystal clear. If …
