Dörenther Cliffs

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Dörenther Cliffs boast impressive rock formations and mysterious myths. Bizarre sandstone cliffs of all sizes and shapes, rising enchantingly up to 40 meters, line the narrow ridge paths.

Great view. In some places you should be careful because the rocks fall steeply.

Dreikaiserstuhl

Highlight • Natural Monument

An interesting rock formation where climbers can often be seen. Or you can simply use one of the rocks for a rest and a picnic during a hike on the Hermannsweg.

Historic wall on the Herrmannsweg

Highlight • Historical Site

It's nice to see how painstakingly and well the stones were fitted together in the past. Unfortunately, there are still people who have to build cairns out of them.

May 26, 2026,Etappe 02: Über den Kammweg von Hörstel bis Tecklenburg – Hermannshöhen
After my departure from Hörstel, there was one last look at the Dortmund-Ems Canal before heading up the 286 steps of the Himmelstreppe into the Teutoburg Forest. On the ridge trail, which is well signposted with an H, it went along numerous viewpoints and rock formations. However, the numerous wind turbines spoiled the view of Münsterland for me.
There were …

In dry but still quite hazy weather we went back to the Hermannshöhen today, from the hiking car park at the Million Bridge / Hörstel to the Bismarck Tower near Tecklenburg - and back again.
The paths were very well walked, only a few muddy passages... 👍

The 2nd stage starts with windy but dry weather⛅. This route is a little shorter at a good 17km, but has a few climbs in the program. Here it really is the whole day through the Teutoburg Forest.🤗

We begin the 7th stage at the Tecklenburg-Stadt bus stop and walk west through the old town below the castle. At the edge of town, we reach the Bismarck Tower. The climb is worthwhile. We then walk for a long time along a historic rampart wall on the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, which is only slightly elevated here. However, …

After a more than excellent breakfast at hotel Riesenbeck on the way to Tecklenburg. Beautiful route, nice ascent, steep descent and again ascent 😎 Beautiful weather in February.

The second stage of the Hermannsweg offered even more of an experience.

Predominantly sparse deciduous forest and a pleasant amount of elevation gain.

About halfway through, there's an opportunity to stop for a break. Unfortunately, we were too early for the Swabian restaurant (goodbye, cheese spaetzle), but the alpine hut near the Dörenthener Klippen was already open. 🍻

Today I walked the 2nd part of the Hermanns Weg 🦶👣unfortunately I walked the first part alone with my girlfriend, 👯‍♀️ she has knee and hip problems and can no longer hike any more stretches 😏. The entertainment is just missing when you hike alone, but everything went well 😃

Showing Translation

Yesterday, in the most beautiful hiking weather, we went into the Teutoburg Forest again, from the "Millonenbrücke" on the canal to Tecklenburg.

Although I have hiked this stage several times before, there was a lot of new and beautiful things to discover this time too.
