Free parking is hidden in the forest. A better parking option is visible in the photos closer to the lake.

The path around the lake is very wet. Waterproof shoes or wellies are required.

The trail is very easy, but dogs are not recommended off-leash. There are numerous waterfowl.

Nice walk to see the irises in bloom. Despite the holiday, there weren't too many people around. For us, this was the maximum distance our health would allow, but we enjoyed every meter.

A short walk around Lake Illmensee before the rain comes...

Parked at the free parking lot at the Illmensee outdoor pool.
The nature trail is nice to walk and offers views of the lake (mostly fishing spots, not yet occupied at the moment).

There are also a few information boards with information about the lake.

Start and finish at the designated parking lot directly at the lake. Note: the parking lots are usually full during the bathing season.

We had actually planned the hike to be 10 kilometers long, circumnavigating the nearby Ruschweiler See.
However, the icy wind threw a spanner in the works.

This hike is absolutely recommended for dog owners. Very nice paths in meadows or in the forest. Beautiful landscape. The dogs 🐕 must stay on a leash as everything is in the nature reserve.
