Hardelingstraat Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

On the site where a lordly manor stood in the Middle Ages, the castle of Hardelingen was built in the 19th century. The site had continuous habitation from an early date and was closely linked for centuries to agricultural exploitation in the fertile valley of the Werm. As a lordly manor, the domain functioned not only as a residence but also as an economic center that managed and structured the surrounding land within the traditional Haspengouw agricultural landscape.
Today, the castle of Hardelingen, located in the quiet village of Werm, represents a valuable example of the transformation of a medieval lordly manor into a stately 19th-century country residence. The castle and its surrounding park landscape strikingly illustrate the neoclassical ideals of order, harmony, and scenic beauty, thus occupying a special place within the heritage of Haspengouw.

Sint-Ludgerus Church Neerrepen

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Ludgerus Church is a church building in Neerrepen in the Belgian municipality of Tongeren in the province of Limburg. The church is located on the north side of the village on the Neerrepenstraat, the cemetery is on the south-west side of the church.
The basilica-like structure consists of a built-in west tower, a three-aisled nave, a transept and a semicircular chancel with a straight bay. The chancel is flanked by sacristies. The tower is built of marlstone, has two bays, an arched bell opening on each side and is topped by a narrowed spire covered with slate. The rest of the building is built of flint and features a frieze with a checkerboard motif on consoles under the eaves, round-arched windows and a finial of brick and marlstone. The west facade features a rectangular portal of bluestone under a mitred lintel above which is an oculus. Between the nave and the side aisles there is a round-arched arcade on pillars with a cover plate. Above the ground floor of the tower there is a marlstone cross-ribbed vault. Above the chancel is a half-dome. The rest of the building has wooden lofts.
The church is the parish church of the village and is dedicated to Saint Ludgerus.

Castle Farm

Highlight • Historical Site

Farm with detached components. In the Atlas of the Neighborhood Roads (1844) only the barn is depicted with extensions on either side. Historically there was no house on the property. The current house dates from 1962.

Transverse barn from the last quarter of the 18th century of half-timbering with brick fillings under a steep saddle roof (Flemish tiles). Three-aisled building with a lean-to on both long sides under a lean-to roof. At right angles to the barn a brick stable wing from the second half of the 19th century. Several of the original round-arched wall openings have been closed; two wooden loading windows; part of the stables was demolished around 1973. Recent detached service buildings.

Haagsmeer Castle

Highlight • Castle

Castle Haagsmeer in Gors-Opleeuw

This is a hunting lodge of the 'Kasteel van Opleeuw' from around 1890, which was extensively renovated in 1958. The oldest part is a tower-shaped structure of three storeys under a tent roof, with a wing added much later. It was probably originally the residence of the nearby farm.
The whole is located in an English park, with some old trees.
This castle is located west of the Bellevue forest. It is not accessible
