World War Memorial with Relief Sculpture

The Lambrechts Monument commemorates the Lambrechts family, a family of resistance fighters who were active as such during the Second World War. This family symbolized all the brave Limburg resistance fighters.

The monument was designed by Eugène Canneel. In addition to a memorial area, it includes a bronze relief depicting father Lambrechts and three of his sons. Two of the sons are in military uniform, and the third wears clerical attire. The father (Théophile), the mother (Carolina Bangels), and three of the four sons (Louis, Edmond, and René) are buried here. Son Tony and daughter Gusta died later and were buried elsewhere.

The memorial, erected in 1946, has had protected monument status since 2014.

The Sint-Pietersbandenkerk is the parish church of Wijer, located at Grotestraat 211 there.
It is a brick, neoclassical hall church from 1824. In 1957 the transept and a new choir were added. The church has a built-in west tower of two segments, covered with a constricted needle spire. A roof turret with bells has been placed above the crossing of the church.

At first glance the chapel looks really old with beautiful marl stones, but it apparently dates from the second half of the 19th century. However, a statue of Our Lady of the Angels has been venerated in the same place since the sixteenth century. The chapel was very dilapidated and was restored in the 1980s when it was also donated to the city of Sint-Truiden by the de Moffarts family.
