San Pietro Bridge

It is a bridge over the Serchio river dating back to the 10th century. It was built with the idea of facilitating the journey of pilgrims and merchants who wanted to reach Lucca from the coast. It was destroyed several times, the last one during the Second World War, but it has always been rebuilt. Today a beautiful statue of St. Peter - who holds the processional cross of martyrdom and the keys of the kingdom of heaven in his hand - is placed right in the center of the bridge in order to protect passers-by and the nearby village from the risks of floods.
