Corkscrew Tree in the Wümme Lowlands

Highlight • Natural Monument

You shouldn't walk past it carelessly. A very interestingly grown tree, an eye-catcher.

Here, not only does a wooden sofa invite you to linger, but above all you can marvel at the sculpture group "Pilger", which was created by a local group of artists and is wonderfully bizarre.

Gothard Bridge Over the Wümme

Highlight • Bridge

There is a sandy section at the bridge that also serves as a bathing beach. The Wümme widens considerably here and is therefore rather gentle and shallow.

Ahe Forest Stone Arch

Highlight • Forest

A very beautiful section of the North Path with giant trees in both living and fallen positions. Often bizarre images of roots and branches.

August 26, 2023,🇩🇪 Nordpfad Wümme Niederungen - Hellwege
Today was collective mosquito feeding. Everything that has rank and name in the world of mosquitoes was represented... I also wore extra shorts and a T-shirt, so everyone should be fed. Ouch that hurt! But was still good.

Today we walked part of the northern path Wümmeniederung, the entire northern path is 32.5 km long! We found it very beautiful, great nature, lots of space, always along the Wümme... Lots of water, forest and meadows and a lot of game 🦌💦!

The focus is currently on the Wümme. After my Faustian visit to the small village of Wümme, today we hike through the heart of the course of the Wümme, the Wümme lowlands between Rotenburg and Everinghausen. The start is just before sunrise in beautiful Hellwege. The legendary Bremen car manufacturer Carl F. Borgward once had a nice half-timbered house there. …

A beautiful and quite long hike in the best weather. But whether that should really have been 320 meters in altitude, I very much doubt that.

From about km 9 onwards I continued walking with water in my shoes and wet feet. In a depression the water was approximately up to the middle of the shins, no way out😩
It was just a new experience😄

What the quarrelsome orcs were in Mordor, the bloodthirsty gnats were today in the Wümme lowlands, which fell upon me in their hundreds or even thousands. They buzzed around me from behind and sat down to eat whenever they could. It didn't go well for many - I did well, but many also managed to do what they lusted after. …

At 31.5 km, the Wümmeniederung north path is the longest of the 24 designated north paths in the Rotenburg an der Wümme region. A great path with a constant change of beautiful forest, field, river valleys and crossings. Due to the conditions of the path, this path is easy to walk, the length then requires a good level of fitness …

When we started, I could have sworn I hadn't run this lap before. But along the way the memory set in😉June 2020, the other way around and not quite as long. Sunday presented the best hiking weather and we started in beautiful Hellwege. The north path signs provided orientation again, the route is part of the north path "Wümmeniederung" We …
