Litz River in Schruns

Highlight • River

The Litz rises from a seven-part spring near the 'Alpe Fresch', at about 1,800 meters above sea level. Another part of the water comes from the Langsee, which seeps underground into the Litz. Over time, the river formed the Silbertal in a slightly bulbous river.

Landamann, Johann Josef Batlogg, Schruns
Johann Josef Batlogg from Vandans married Josefa Bitschnau and became an innkeeper at Gasthaus Adler in the neighboring community of St. Anton in Montafon. During the First Coalition War in 1796, he was involved in the fighting against the French troops in Vorarlberg as Landammann and Captain of the Landwehr.
In August 1796, the district chief Ignaz Anton von Indermauer, who had fled from the French, was murdered in the St. Peter monastery in Bludenz. Thereafter, Landammann Batlogg was accused of having approved this act. It is believed that his political opponent Johann Ignaz Vonier from Schruns promoted these allegations. Batlogg was arrested in December 1796 and imprisoned in Innsbruck and only rehabilitated and released in 1798.
In 1799, in the Second Coalition War against France, Batlogg again organized the defense of the Montafon passes against the French troops in Graubünden and there was a battle on March 24, 1799 at the Schlappiner Joch, which was held.
His early death at the age of 49 was linked to the stresses and strains of his imprisonment in Innsbruck and during the war sojourn in the mountains.

Aqua Stairway

Highlight • Trail

Start directly at the ski jumping hill, mostly a steep path, only at the end many stairs, in between there is a small ladder - nothing with a dog! You land directly on the cozy one. Terrace of the Bitschweil snack station (you can also be picked up by car here)
