Starting in Xanten today, I cycled along the Niers again. A classic that is always worth doing. A short detour to Kevelaer, so to speak a Grävel pilgrimage.

Very comfortable to drive. Especially along the Niers.
The pedestrian zone in Kevelaer is NOT accessible between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
You should stick to that! You can push the few meters without hesitation, it doesn't hurt. Today I saw some gentlemen in pants that were too tight who weren't interested. This is annoying and not entirely harmless.

For today, we had planned a tour to Kevelaer through the hinterland of Xanten. I had Komoot suggest the tour and adapted it to our starting point, which meant that we first had to take the Bislich ferry across the Rhine.

Our first tour with an e-bike. And then such a beautiful one! From Xanten via Sonsbeck, Kevelaer, from there always along the Niers via Uedem, Uedemerbruch, back to Xanten. Highly recommended

Showing Translation

Three different sections: a) slightly hilly b) along the Niers River and c) along the railway line (Boxteler). Highly recommended and enjoyable.

Whoever planned this route, congratulations, you did a good job. Apart from the few kilometers near Xanten, it was a very varied tour through a beautiful landscape. We particularly liked the stretch on the railway embankment and along the Niers, but the stretch from Winnekendonk back to Xanten is also worthwhile.

Showing Translation

Great route, very varied, but you shouldn't go after high water, a little to a lot muddy on the Niers, but otherwise a wonderful tour

We started today's ADFC bike tour at the train station in Xanten. 22 participants were part of the group. Roman history, lots of water and a lively economic life have made the city of Xanten something "special" for ages. The tour first took us briefly into the city center and then into the somewhat hilly landscape between Xanten and Sonsbeck. …
