Description

If you're looking for a scenic and manageable road cycling experience in the Heber Valley, the Roadbike loop from Midway is a solid choice. This moderate 27.2-mile (43.7 km) route features 1155 feet (352 metres) of elevation gain and can be completed in about 2 hours and 3 minutes, making it an excellent option for intermediate riders or those new to cycling in Utah's dry, thin air.

What to expect on Roadbike loop from Midway

This loop offers a delightful journey through varied terrain, blending rolling hills with flat country roads. You'll pedal through the charming "Swiss town" of Midway, enjoying endlessly exceptional views of Mt. Timpanogos as you skirt the edges of Deer Creek Reservoir. While the route is generally intermediate, be prepared for sections with narrow shoulders, particularly along SR 189 through Midway and SR 32, requiring you to stay alert. A welcome descent through Brown's Canyon provides a nice reprieve after climbing SR 248, but always exercise caution due to potential wildlife and faster-moving cars.

Planning your visit

The beauty of this circular road bike route is its flexibility; you can start from any point along the loop. While heavy traffic can be expected on Main Street in Heber, you can often bypass this by using back roads through neighborhoods. Note that SR 32 is a frequently trafficked road with limited shoulder space, so maintain awareness of your surroundings. The route includes an ample shoulder on U.S. 40 for about three miles, offering a bit more breathing room.
