Pleßhaus

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The princely hunting lodge Pleßhaus was built in 1866/67 on the Pleßhauswiese, about 1 km north of the summit of the Pleß.
In 1974 it was moved to a new location approx. 1.5 km south of the Breitungen train station and has been called the “Seeblick” restaurant ever since.
The foundations of the old Pleßhaus on the Pleßhauswiese are still well preserved and secured against deterioration with a tin roof.

The Plesturm adorns the mountain of the same name and offers you a wonderful all-round view. Benches and tables that have been set up around invite you to rest.

The Jägerstein or Sachsenstein commemorates the ducal Landjägermeister Johannes Michael Sachs, who was killed (murdered?) in a mysterious hunting accident on June 6th, 1722.
The memorial stone was erected at the instigation of the Meiningen duke Ernst Ludwig I and was originally located near the duck puddle below the Pleßhaus.
