Horsey Windpump and Café

Highlight • Historical Site

Powered by tea. Propelled by cake.
Owned by the National Trust, the mill (pump), built in 1855, is in the process of being restored. It should be fully functional by autumn 2018. Helpful and friendly volunteers are keen to share their knowledge about the mill.
It was used to pump water from the drainage ditches which are below sea level up into the river.
In the 19th century there were about 250 of them, now only 4 are left, having been replaced by far more efficient (and less romantic) electric pumping stations.
The pump would have been manned by a marsh man and his boy 24/7.

WW2-themed cafe, so a bit of an unusual atmosphere but easy access and outdoor space make it a good option with a bike.

Waxham Beach

Highlight • Viewpoint

Tucked away behind layers of sand dunes and trees, Waxham beach is one of Norfolk's best-kept secrets. The long stretch of golden sand is a great place to relax and watch grey seals bobbing in the North Sea. Although there are slightly ugly concrete sea defences at the entrance to the beach, you will quickly see why this hidden beach deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful coastal falls within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Potter Heigham Bridge

Highlight • River

Potter Heigham Bridge is an iconic bridge spanning the River Thurne in the village of Potter Heigham.

It dates back to the 13th century and is believed to be one of the oldest surviving bridges in Norfolk.

Potter Heigham Bridge is a popular spot for tourists and boaters exploring the Norfolk Broads. During the boating season, it can get quite busy with vessels navigating through the narrow arch, making it a fascinating sight for visitors.
