Great Pyramid of Giza

Highlight • Monument

No pyramid is higher or older than her: at 146 meters, the Great Pyramid was the tallest structure on earth for almost 4,000 years. It is an architectural masterpiece, and not just for its time. The pyramid is precisely aligned with the four cardinal directions, and the side lengths are completely the same except for a few millimeters. The stone blocks are cut so precisely that only a razor blade fits between them. How were the Egyptians able to create such a complex structure using primitive tools at least 4,500 years ago?
The "Great Pyramid" is the only surviving one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It stands with two other pyramids on the Giza Plateau in Egypt. Historians assume that Pharaoh Khufu had it built. He probably wanted to be buried there, like other rulers in other pyramids.
But no mummy was found in either the King's or Queen's Chamber of the Great Pyramid. Neither are treasures found in other pyramids. Scientists assume that the pyramid was robbed in the Middle Ages at the latest, but perhaps in ancient times.

Great Pyramid of Giza

Highlight • Monument

The Pyramids of Giza are one of Egypt's main attractions. Located in the Giza Necropolis, the pyramids are part of a series of ancient monuments that include the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and many more. For thousands of years, they were the tallest man-made structures in the world. Today, they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Pharaoh Cheops began the first pyramid project at Giza around 2550 BC. His Great Pyramid is the largest in Giza, rising about 147 meters into the sky. The estimated 2.3 million stone blocks weigh an average of 2.5 to 15 tons.
Cheops' son, Pharaoh Chephren, built the second pyramid at Giza around 2520 BC. His necropolis also included the Sphinx, a mysterious limestone monument with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh. The Sphinx may have stood as a guardian over the entire pharaoh's funerary complex.
The third of the Giza pyramids is considerably smaller than the first two. It was built by Pharaoh Mykerino around 2490 BC and contained a much more complex mortuary temple.
However, each of the massive pyramids is only part of a larger complex that also includes a palace, temples, solar boat pits and other facilities.

The Great Sphinx of Giza, commonly referred to as the Sphinx of Giza or just the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature.

Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt.

The face of the Sphinx appears to represent the pharaoh Khafre.

The Old Kingdom Temple of the Sphinx at Giza is an ancient Egyptian temple on the Giza Plateau at the foot of the Great Sphinx. It is considered an important testimony to the temple building activity in the Old Kingdom. The temple was probably built by the ancient Egyptian king Cheops or Chephren.

Great Sphinx of Giza

Highlight • Monument

The (also the) Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt (Arabic أبو الهول, DMG Abū l-Haul) is by far the most famous and largest Sphinx. It represents a lying lion with a human head and was probably built in the 4th dynasty during the reign of Chephren (around 2520 to 2494 BC, according to other sources 2570 to 2530 BC).
