The area around the medieval Zwernitz Castle between Bayreuth and Bamberg has been used for margravial hunting since early times. But it was not until 1744 that the plan to create something like a miracle garden in this remote place came into being.

The tour begins at the market square in Wonsees, where you can park easily and have a good rest stop. It goes along the Wacholderweg to Sanspareil. The sights there are easy to reach and are signposted. A visit to Zwernitz Castle is possible, I'll do that another time.
