Traditional Half-Timbered Houses in Altes Land

Highlight • Historical Site

This is exactly the type of house you look for when you come to the Altes Land. Here's a whole bunch of them.
Many houses also have an information board stating the type and year of construction of the house.

On the way from Horneburg to the Elbe, you will pass many renovated fruit farms. It is not only in the Guderhand district that the old farmhouses testify to the wealth and pride of the old fruit growers.

Along the Lühe from Horneburg to the mouth of the Elbe - sometimes just nature, sometimes beautiful half-timbered houses. The "pearl" in the middle is Steinkirchen. The best time is after sunrise or late afternoon when the sun is deep.

Here it is worth buying local fruit and stopping at one of the courtyard cafes and trying the homemade cakes.

A great tour, especially when the fruit trees are in bloom and very well attended in autumn during the fruit harvest

View of the Elbe River

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Elberadwanderweg leads directly along the Elbe. The alternation between low and high tide is interesting. The ships are impressive.
There is always a place for a quiet break along the way.

May 1, 2024,Schöne alte Bauernhäuser – Das alte Land Runde von Buxtehude
Started from Buxtehude 🚴.
It was a wonderful tour through the old country, apple orchards and along the Elbe 🏞️🌞in wonderful summer temperatures 😰
Then through the Guderhandviertel.
What a beautiful district with beautiful half-timbered houses 🏚️
One more beautiful than the other.
Just a really beautiful tour 🚴🌞🍀
I got my first sunburn.
No matter, it was just awesome …

First family trip in sunny weather and 21 degrees, sun, sea, ice cream :-)

Such a bratwurst also wants to be earned. In great weather I drove through the Alte Land to the Lüheanleger in Grünendeich. It's fun going there again, as the corona rules have been relaxed. After I had strengthened myself and watched the large and small ships on the Elbe, I drove back to Buxtehude via Horneburg.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained 😂😂 Despite the bad weather forecast, I still started. Rain gear on and off, and apart from the last 5km, I didn't really get wet 🤣🤣🤣

A leisurely round between Lühe and Este in the best cycling weather

Showing Translation

Short bike ride to my favorite spot, the "Lüheanleger." I was lucky and a big boat sailed past. After a coffee, we continued on.

The largest contiguous apple-growing area in northern Europe.
Taking photos of all the locations would have blown the time limit.
