Amtsrichterhaus Schwarzenbek

Highlight • Historical Site

The former residence of the Schwarzenbek district judges, built between 1765 and 1767, is located in a park with mature trees. It served as the residence of the district clerks during the reign of the Electorate of Hanover. The property also included a barn, a carriage house, and a stable with a stable. From 1870 to 1968, the district judge's house and its garden served as the residence of the Schwarzenbek district judges. The building has been a listed building since 1982. It was restored in 1988 and has since served as a cultural center for the town of Schwarzenbek. It has become nationally known through the exhibitions and cultural events held there.

Refugees and displaced persons from the former eastern territories of the German Reich made up about half of Schwarzenbek's population in the years following World War II. They embraced their new home without ever forgetting their old one.
They shaped Schwarzenbek's development in the years that followed, right up to the present day. The European City has now dedicated this memorial stone to them.
The memorial stone bears the coats of arms of the provinces from which the people of the former eastern territories came to Schwarzenbek.
The information panel provides a brief historical context.

The Schwarzenbek Gymnasium is a school that successfully prepares its students for the Abitur (high school diploma) in nine years. In addition to providing a high school education, the focus is on the personal development of each child.
As a European school, they convey an understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, and economic diversity and unity of Germany as part of Europe.
Within the school community, interaction is characterized by respect and tolerance. It is important that everyone involved in school life is valued for their contribution and that everyone contributes reliably with their potential and qualities.
These guiding principles form the basis of the school's profile and the focus of the school program.

New Cemetery Schwarzenbek

Highlight • Structure

Our cemeteries are gardens of life. A variety of deciduous and coniferous trees, high-quality plantings, grow in the parks in the heart of Schwarzenbek and close to the community. They are oases of peace that invite reflection and relaxation. Hardly any cemetery visitor is left unmoved by the fascinating spectacle of the seasons.

A tour of the cemeteries is closely linked to the various gravesites, such as the Urn Garden, Quiet Corner, Birch Grove, Perennial Garden, Rhododendron Grove, and Sun Field.
People who are often in similar situations meet in the cemeteries.

These encounters can provide comfort to the bereaved and broaden their path forward. Therefore, it is important to maintain our two cemeteries as they are and continually adapt them to changing circumstances.

The "New Cemetery" on Möllner Straße (first established in 1893) offers people from the Northeast area, Mühlenkamp, and all other residents a place to bury their loved ones.

In the chapel, which was taken over from the parish in 2018 by the local Möller Funeral Home and extensively renovated on their behalf, dignified funeral services are once again held, and relatives can say their goodbyes on site. After the chapel's renovation, other events such as church services, concerts, and readings are also possible and planned.

Both cemeteries are open to burials of all denominations and people of diverse spirituality. Thus, Schwarzenbek's cemeteries always reflect the current social mix.

Resurrection Chapel Schwarzenbek

Highlight • Religious Site

It's a cemetery chapel that could charitably be described as "functional."

The Resurrection Chapel in Schwarzenbek stands surrounded by rhododendron bushes in the middle of the New Cemetery. The functionally furnished interior is used by the congregation primarily for funeral services. It's manageable, but it could be better.

That's about to change, too, because it has been sold and is scheduled to undergo extensive renovation and redesign starting in spring 2019.

It's supposed to be really good—we're excited to see what happens.

Current update 2/22/2022:
Yes, some things have changed since then. The entrance area has been redesigned, among other things, and the chapel has been restored. Now everything is a bit more presentable.
