St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Church, Szczecin-Bukowe

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr in Szczecin. Interesting combination of the old church with the new one built next to it.
It was erected in the second half of the 15th century on the site of an earlier temple, mentioned for the first time in 1359. Until 1534 it was a Catholic temple, later it was taken over by Protestants. The building, made of granite boulders, without a separate chancel, was laid out on a rectangular plan with dimensions of 20.8 × 9.4 m. In 1697, a wooden tower was added to it. In 1896, the temple underwent a general renovation, including the replacement of ceilings, roof and windows. In 1937, medieval frescoes were discovered on the south wall of the church.
The church was badly damaged during World War II. The wooden tower burned down completely, and the historical equipment was also lost. The building that remained in ruins was rebuilt in the years 1976–1979. At that time, a new ceiling and roof were installed, and a sacristy was added at the north-west corner. On January 25, 1979, the temple was consecrated as the Roman Catholic church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr. In 1985, stained glass was installed. Due to the increasing number of believers in the parish in 1995–2002, a widened nave was built on the west side.

Beautiful view of the marina. There is a place to sit and relax, and next to it there is a grocery store.

The mentions of the church in the city of Dąbie come from the beginning of the 14th century. Originally it was a wooden village church, later, due to the development of the city, a brick and stone three-nave Gothic hall temple with a tower and a presbytery were built. In the 17th century, the towers were equipped with a very high cupola.

In 1863 the helmet was struck by lightning, causing a fire that consumed a large part of the building's structure. In the years 1864-1866, the temple was rebuilt according to a neo-Gothic design by architect Karl Brecht. Some of the medieval walls of the church have been preserved, but the upper parts of the building, as well as the chancel, chapels, pillars and the vault were built from scratch.

In 1945 the church was damaged - among others, top of the tower and stained glass windows. After the war, cleaning works were carried out, damaged polychromes and sculptural motifs on the arcades were restored. Most of the church's furnishings come from the 19th and 20th centuries, and an old wooden crucifix from the 18th century has also been preserved.

The building in which the hotel is currently located has almost 700 years of history. From the 13th to the 19th century, there were various versions of a mill on the Płonia River. The first name was Geerhald Muhlle after the owner's surname, then, from the time of the Swedish invasion until the end of the 19th century - Crown Mill (Kronmuhle). At the end of the 19th century, a hydroelectric power plant was built in place of the mill and operated until the war. After the war, in 1948, the power plant equipment was demolished and the building fell into ruin until 2001, when, after several years of renovation, a hotel was opened here.
