Dominican Monastery in České Budějovice
The Dominican Monastery and its Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary are the oldest Gothic buildings in České Budějovice. It was built when the city was founded around 1265 and became part of the city fortifications. The interior of the church contains rare remains of paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries. The tradition of Marian devotion is associated with the image of Our Lady of Budějovice. The monastery includes the 51-meter-high White Tower from the late Gothic period, which is still an important landmark of the České Budějovice panorama. The monastery garden contains five unique Baroque sculptures by Josef Dietrich.

Palace Biene

In 1895, at the height of its development, the German savings and advance association Biene, short for Včela („Biene“), realized its dream of a representative building. But in 1922, the institute was robbed – the perpetrator remained unknown – which led to financial difficulties and eventually to its closure.
In 1923, the Federation of Germans in Bohemia (BdB) took over the building. Its logo was still visible in the square even after World War II.
