Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) Summit

Highlight • Summit

the parking lot is at 4,710m altitude. There are toilets ($3 soles) and stalls selling drinks, snacks and souvenirs at the parking lot. There are two more toilets ($3 and $5 soles) on the way to Rainbow mountain and Red valley. Halfway you can get your passport stamped for $3 soles. for the lazy there is also the possibility to be taken up by mule. Entry to Red Valley is an additional $20 soles. Best to arrive early in the morning. This is how you avoid the crowds of tourists.

This hike was our highlight. When do you ever stand on a peak over 5000m?
The path from the parking lot to the summit is 'only' 300 m but it's quite a challenge because the air is pretty thin up here.
The view of Rainbow Mountain and the surrounding mountains, which are up to 7000m high, is an unforgettable experience.
