View of Golspie and the Coast from Ben Bhraggie

Highlight • Viewpoint

Ben Bhraggie rises to 397 metres (1,302 ft) above the village of Golspie and is visible from many parts of east Sutherland. The 30-metre high statue at its summit is that of George Leveson-Gower, Marquess of Stafford and first Duke of Sutherland, who became notorious through the part he played in the Highland clearances.

Duke of Sutherland Monument

Highlight • Monument

The Duke of Sutherland is a100ft statue (including the plinth) of the 1st Duke of Sutherland. It was erected in 1834, a year after his death, by "a mourning and grateful tenantry" to "a judicious, kind and liberal landlord", presumably not numbering among them the 15,000 or so forcibly removed during the clearances of the Sutherland estate.
