Half Moon Bay Beach

Highlight • Beach

Half Moon Bay is known for its curved sandy shoreline, calm water, and views of the HMVS Cerberus wreck sitting offshore. The former nineteenth-century warship was deliberately scuttled in 1926 to act as a breakwater and remains visible from the beach today. Red Bluff cliffs rise beside the bay, adding a distinct backdrop to the coastline. The sheltered water also makes this a popular area for swimming, snorkelling, and kayaking.

Red Bluff Cliffs

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Red Bluff Cliffs are a striking section of coastline formed by iron-rich sandstone, giving the cliffs their deep red colour. The area is one of the few remaining examples of these formations around Port Phillip Bay, with visible layers and erosion patterns along the cliff face.

Sandringham Band Rotunda

Highlight • Monument

Overlooking the foreshore, the Sandringham Band Rotunda sits within beautifully landscaped gardens above the beach, with open lawns and wide views across Port Phillip Bay. Built in 1926, the rotunda has long been a local landmark and gathering place, originally used for community waterfront band performances. Today, the surrounding gardens, seating and coastal setting make it a great spot to pause and enjoy the bay views or take a break while exploring the foreshore.

Sandringham Foreshore Reserve runs along a long stretch of the Bayside coastline between Hampton and Black Rock, with wide sandy beaches and open foreshore areas beside Port Phillip Bay. The coastline here is easy to follow, with a shared path that’s consistently busy with walkers, runners, and cyclists. Along the way, you’ll pass features like the Sandringham Yacht Club and older rotunda structures near the shore.
